Description

Tui – Come find Me: Landscape Art  An Original Landscape Painting of a Tui in a Kowhai Tree  by Artist Kirsten McIntosh

This painting was created for the exhibition ‘Our Times’..

The theme of the exhibition was to give audiences of the exhibition an opportunity to see how the artist captures how the community is living through this very challenging period of Covid restrictions and lockdowns.

I took this opportunity to show this period of time from my point of view and the series of paintings all reflect this.  Our family was a little naughty in that we headed to our lake house in Rotorua where we hunkered down in a very serene and quiet little community where we knew that we would be safe during lockdown.

The name of our lake house is ‘Tui Bach’ as there are a lot of Tuis that live in the bush surrounding our property.  Tui – Come find Me: Landscape Art reflects the beautiful sounds that we heard on a daily basis and the fleeting image of them sitting in a Kowhai tree.

This is the first painting I have done of a bird and what an iconic one to start with.  It just seemed to paint itself.  I really enjoy the dreamy blurred nature of the background which makes the Tui stand out.

I always want my works to look consistent.  Six or seven colours are used in my paintings.  I am trying to achieve harmony within the painting and my whole series of artworks.

I have also added a small teddy bear on the rim of the canvas which is to represent the movement to encourage people to place a teddy where it can be seen from the street ‘We’re not scared – NZ Bear Hunt’.  There will only be four paintings with this added.

Prints of this artwork are available on request through my contact page.
