Description
Light on the Dunes: NZ Landscape painting by Artist Kirsten McIntosh
I obtained permission to use this image through a photographer. I was drawn to the colours of the sunset hitting the grasses (bunnies). This painting is being represented by the Welcome Swallow Gallery in Grey Street, Hamilton East. If you want to see this painting in person you can visit the gallery or you can order from my website and I will liaise with the gallery. The Welcome Swallow Gallery supports Children in Need and when buying this artwork you are contributing to this charity.
The image is taken in Petone during the late afternoon. The first European settlers arrived on 22 January 1840, on the ship Aurora[3].
Even though this piece is not in my back yard, it could be any beach in New Zealand, with the iconic bunnies glowing in the evening sun.
I adore all of the colours in this painting. Such as the purple tones in the water and similarly in the clouds. Futhermore I always want my works to look consistent. I use six or seven colours in my paintings. With this in mind I am trying to achieve harmony within my whole landscape series.
In conclusion, there are lots of areas of this painting that I enjoy and feel that they standout, in the case of the sun’s light on the hills equally the surf and grasses. Of course it’s all about the light!
I’d love for you to check out some of my other landscape paintings.
Prints will be made from this original painting.
Thanks for viewing.
