Lake Edge Limited Edition Print is based on the original painting ‘Lake Edge – Rotorua’ which has sold.

A lovely scene that we travel past on the way to our bach in Rotorua.  On this one evening I stopped the car and ran back just to capture this image.  We had travelled past this scene so many times. On this one particular evening the light proved to be perfect.

I like how the Pohutukawa tree lingers into the water and shows all of the reflections.

It was a challenge to capture the roadside flowers and the intricate nature of the tree reflection.

I love the magical colours in this piece and it was a real joy to paint.

Lake Rotorua is the second largest lake in the North Island.   It has a mean depth of only 10 metres and is considerably smaller than nearby Lake Tarawera.

Sitting in the centre of Lake Rotorua is Mokoia Island.  Closely associated with one of the best-known Māori legends, that of Hinemoa and Tutanekai.  Today Mokoia Island is a sanctuary to endangered birds and wildlife.

For the most part I always want my works to look consistent.  Hence only six or seven colours are used in my paintings.  I am trying to achieve harmony within the painting and my whole landscape series.
