Description
Daily Walk: New Zealand Landscape Art – An Original Landscape Painting of a walk through the navtive NZ bush by Artist Kirsten McIntosh
This painting was created for the exhibition ‘Our Times’.
The theme of the exhibition was to give audiences of the exhibition an opportunity to see how the artist captures how the community is living through this very challenging period of Covid restrictions and lockdowns.
I took this opportunity to show this period of time from my point of view and the series of paintings all reflect this. Our family was a little naughty in that we headed to our lake house in Rotorua where we hunkered down in a very serene and quiet little community where we knew that we would be safe during lockdown.
I took this opportunity to show this period of time from my point of view and the series of paintings all reflect this. Our family was a little naughty in that we headed to our lake house in Rotorua where we hunkered down in a very serene and quiet little community where we knew that we would be safe during lockdown.
So this painting is our daily walk and it was a great opportunity to come together as a family and talk about how we were feeling about the current situation. A great time to clear our minds.
Lake Rotoehu, where our lake house is, is a very quiet settlement with beautiful native bush surrounding it and I just knew that one day I would capture a scene from these walks and paint it.
It was quite a challenging painting to create with many layers to create the depth of all of the falling foliage, but once the layers were in it all flowed so nicely through to the completed painting.
I want to take the viewer on a journey into this walk and enjoy the feeling of being immersed in the cool fresh and invigorating air that this brings. Forrest bathing (shinrin-yoku).
I always want my works to look consistent. Six or seven colours are used in my paintings. I am trying to achieve harmony within the painting and my whole series of artworks.
I have also added a small teddy bear on the rim of the canvas which is to represent the movement to encourage people to place a teddy where it can be seen from the street ‘We’re not scared – NZ Bear Hunt’. There will only be four paintings with this added.

Thanks for viewing.
